Hold on. Everybody take a deep breath.

Feel better?

Ok, I’m going to have to ask some of you to be honest with yourselves for just a second…wasn’t this really a completely partisan reaction? I mean, I understand not wanting your kids to be indoctrinated by socialists. Seriously, I do.

I just don’t get why you think that isn’t happening in public school every day. The ironic thing to me is that President Obama’s speech was all about personal responsibility, yet his policies are not. But if you are about personal responsibility, why does it hurt for your kids to hear about it from The President, whether he walks the walk or not?

“But it was about the lesson plan, not the speech.”

Really? How much do you know about the lesson plans that are being implemented on a daily basis? Do you approve of all of them? Are you sure they are even being implemented?

Sorry, but from where I sit that’s just grasping at straws.

What a lot of people on the right don’t realize is what actually happened–you guys got distracted by something almost completely benign. You became so worried about what may be said in a 10 minute speech that you forgot to keep your eye on the real issue–possible passage of legislation that will all but enslave your children and grandchildren in the name of “free” health care.

That’s the real shame. You were gaining ground in your fight against a dangerous dragon, but stopped for a whole week to put on a blindfold and chase a mosquito.

Please pick your battles more wisely in the future.

Besides that, this kind of stuff makes you guys look an awful lot like Democrats. Not good.

Was talking to a lefty err…progressive buddy of mine tonight, and he brought up something that is too, too true…

Whatever ends up being passed it will suck.

I don’t think anything will pass. At least I hope not. I’d like to see the market for HSAs opened up to lower deductible insurance policies first. If people had to shop for the first $2k or so they spend, every day health care costs would most likely drop quickly.

You wouldn’t know it by reading this blog, but I’m actually a silver lining type guy on most things. There is an upside to gov’ment health care that we shouldn’t overlook–with the unavoidable rationing and inability to get treatment on demand, people may actually start taking better care of themselves.

Are real estate values in moderate climates about to climb?

Is there a publicly traded company that makes wood burning stoves?

What are we going to do about the inevitable deforestation that will take place when people switch to wood burning stoves so they can afford to stay warm? Won’t that mean fewer trees to absorb greenhouse gases?

What’s the over under on how long it will be before they announce that the earth is cooling thanks to this historic legislation? I’d place the line at one year, and I’ll take the under, because I’ve already read that may be true.

WBIR did a story on my buddy McNabb’s office/residential building he’s been working on. He bought this horrible looking building on Broadway a couple of years ago, and he’s put a lot of hard work into it. I was over there about a month ago to see the almost complete office space. He’s also putting in a green roof and opening up the courtyard of the building as green space with bike racks and free Wi-Fi.

Not bad for a guy I’ve often slapped in the back of the head and called Space Monkey on multiple occasions.

Besides the obviously great job he’s done turning what once was an eyesore into a useful and attractive space, I love is that he’s renaming it The Taggart Building. Personally, I would have gone with Roark Towers, but The Fountainhead influenced me more than Atlas Shrugged.

This makes me chuckle. There’s already talk of where taxes will be raised to pay for a national health care plan. Tobacco, alcohol, soft drinks, employer health plans, and HSAs are all being discussed. All the big gov’ment advocates are going to be in for a rude awakening when they realize that all of these are going to be shot down due to successful lobbying by special interest groups.

That’s what happens when you have a big, powerful gov’ment. Everybody who can afford to pay for a seat at the table of power gets to decide what happens. And the people who can’t pay the cover charge, well…

It would almost…I said ALMOST…be worth having national health care just to witness the outrage that is sure to occur one way the other. Taxes are going to be drastically raised to pay for it. Who ultimately pays those taxes? The consumer.

Don’t like that scenario? Don’t worry, there’s always the (likely) possibility they’ll just print more money and you’ll pay the cost indirectly through hyper-inflation. Of course, then I’m sure there will be a proposed national food program…everyone has a right to food after all.

Bully for him for being critical of the crap the Bush administration pushed on us for 8 years, but how does voting for someone even more socialist than Bush help you voice your displeasure with socialism? I’m lost.

I guess I can relate on some level. I’ve rationalized drowning potato chips in dip before. I mean, hey, I’m already eating like crap–might as well go all the way with it.

You laugh, but I’d actually like to encourage Congress to spend more time doing stuff like this and less time, you know, legislating. We can limit their damage by relegating them to doing school cheers, quoting stats, and generally flexing their public speaking muscles about sporting events.

For her efforts to filabuster any spending or attacks on liberty in Congress for almost four whole minutes, I want to gratulate Corrine Brown on sportmanship and one of the best defense plays that I’ve seen in Congress.

Watch for the people who show up late. If the Tea Party you are attending is early in the morning, there’s a good chance it won’t be infiltrated at all.

Smokers. They’ll also be attending the “Free Health Care for Everyone Rally” later that day and will have stocked up on smokes for both events. Bonus points if they are smoking cloves cigarettes.

Anyone complaining it isn’t fair that people who arrived before them get better spots at the rally.

Why is a tax credit for home purchases only good for first time home buyers? Wouldn’t making it available to everyone lure even more people into the market?

Doctors, lawyers, engineers, car salesmen, politicians, school teachers, reporters…the list goes on and on. Is there any profession out there that isn’t loathed by anyone? I’d say firefighters and nurses–maybe. But even librarians irritate me. They walk around pretending Google can’t do their job 1,000,000 times more efficiently than they can.

What is the ratio of right-handed to left-handed pitchers in MLB? It seems like there are just about as many lefties as righties, even though there aren’t nearly as many left-handed people in the general population. The logical conclusion is that there are lots of right-handed people out there with good stuff, or at least the potential to have it. Why don’t I know any of these people?

When we played battleball/dodeball in middle school, why were you out if you hit someone in the head. It’s not like you were trying to hit them in the head. In fact, if you could purposefully hit someone in the head with one of those difficult to throw balls at such a young age, you probably should have been rewarded for your ability.

Mayonnaise–why in the world would anyone eat that on purpose?

If you can answer any of these questions, I’d appreciate it.
