RSS Awareness Day
May 1st has been declared RSS Awareness Day by, uh, some folks who want to raise awareness about RSS. I was actually surprised to learn that only 5.4% of internet users are currently using RSS. I’m pretty vigilant about watching my subscriber numbers, so I would LOVE to increase RSS usage to somewhere closer to [...]
The Blogosphere Is Going to Implode? Nah.
According to Gawker’s Nick Denton, yes. Gawker head honcho Nick Denton explained to Silicon Alley Insider that the decision to sell the sites was based on the economy, lack of advertising, and his desire to get lean before the blogosphere implodes. Wait. Don’t panic. One prognostication does not a bubble burst. Don’t rush out to [...]
Write It All Off
Kramer: They just write it off. Jerry: You don’t even know what a write off is, do you? Kramer: Do you? Jerry: No, I don’t. Kramer. Well they do, and they’re the ones writing it off. Jerry: I wish I had the last 20 seconds of my life back. HT to Auramae via Twitter for [...]
Blogging Yourself To Death
An NYT article about the dangers of blogging… Two weeks ago in North Lauderdale, Fla., funeral services were held for Russell Shaw, a prolific blogger on technology subjects who died at 60 of a heart attack. In December, another tech blogger, Marc Orchant, died at 50 of a massive coronary. A third, Om Malik, 41, [...]
Why I Give Full Articles in My Feed
With apologies to those who come here only for the ranting… I have a plan to do a whole series of articles on search engine optimization (SEO) for bloggers. While the topic of full vs. partial feeds may not be directly related to SEO at first glance, I feel that it is in a round [...]
WordPress 2.5 Upgrade (Official)
WordPress 2.5 was released yesterday, and I’ve installed it on all most some of my sites. So far, my favorite new feature is the automatic upgrade of plugins. But… The reason I need automatic upgrade of plugins is because I’m so bad at keeping my plugins updated. As a result, I didn’t have the newest [...]
Spring Cleaning My Blog
I made a promise a couple of weeks ago that I’d be making some changes here. For better or worse, I set out to do just that last night. I committed to working through Earth Hour at least, and ended up going to bed early this morning. In lieu of turning out the lights for [...]
Firefox 2.0.0.13 and WordPress
Is anyone else having an issue viewing their WordPress dashboard in Firefox 2.0.0.13? My blogs themselves look ok, but the dashboard is wack. No? Just me? That may be the last time I take a brand new upgrade. ***UPDATE*** “Wack”= CSS doesn’t seem to be working at all, but only on the WP Dashboard
If You’re Thinking of Upgrading WordPress
I’ve already received a few emails about this upgrade and keeping WordPress up to date. First off, the one I posted about last night is a release candidate. I wouldn’t recommend upgrading until the new version is actually released. Example, I’m not running it on this blog yet, only on a development blog. When you [...]
Using WordPress 2.5 RC1
As promised, I got WP 2.5 RC1 installed on a development blog tonight and have spent a little time clicking through it. I’ll say this much already for the Dashboard…it is much better organized for authors/editors/administrators. The big tabs on the left are for “Write”, “Manage”, “Design” (formerly “Presentation”), and “Comments”. Anything else you’d want [...]
